138|366 - Holiday Planning

138_may17
I don't know what is going on in kiwi heads when reading such map prints; but to me, only the part "Cell phone coverage can be unreliable" sounds like stress free holidays... (not anymore after reconsidering)

134|366 - Western Park

134_may13
Western Park is one of Auckland's oldest parks, finished in 1874. Three sculptures of ancient houses sinking into the ground have been added on the Ponsonby Road frontage created by sculptor John Radford. They represent buildings that once stood in Auckland...

133|366 - Valkyrie Fountain

133_may12
"In Norse mythology the Valkyries were the hand maidens of Odin serving at Valhalla banquets. But their most important office was to ride through the air to the scene of battle and choose the combatants to be slain and after the battle convey the fallen heroes to Odin." More about the scultpure in Auckland Domain...

127B|366 - Moonrise

127a_may06
I decided to post photo 127 b named moonrise (opposed to sunset) because tonight is the night of the biggest moon over New Zealand. I am not equipped for it (70mm), but I thought I give astronomy photography a try and felt like sharing (anyway)...

127|366 - Sunset

127_may06

I really liked how this church on Ponsonby Road seemed to gleam when I passed it one hour before the sunset tonight...

"It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark..." - actually it was 7 hours past midnight. Tried to catch the first beams of sunlight this morning...

123|366 - Next Please

123_may02
This is a book I found in a hostel in Mount Cook Village in New Zealand. The previous reader, a tourist from Austria, left it there for the next interested German speaking tourist - which was me :-) I finished reading the book and plan to "abandon" it as well during my next trip on New Zealand's North Island (with greetings from Germany of course)...

120|366 - Parakeets

120_april29
Hard decision today what to take as photo of the day. We went out for some levitation shots on Mount Eden when some parakeets had a fight in the tree above us. I finally decided for the photo of the birds because they are more seldom (if not visiting the zoo) than levitating people ;-)

119|366 - Stamps

119_april28
The New Zealand Post made me laugh today. For the first time since I arrived here I decided to buy an international stamp at the machine rather than queuing for 15 minutes. First surprise: single stamps are not available, but come in a pack of five. Second surprise: the machine doesn't simply spit out five printed-on-demand stamps but pre-printed stamps including five air post stickers - everything packed in a nice little red post box (meaning, the boxes inside have to be prepared in advance, and, they can be sold out; weird!!? #ScreamingForGermanTechnology)...

112|366 - Lighting

112_april21
The Sky Tower is illuminated in blue and white tonight. While the tower is illuminated white only on normal days, it usually appears completely blue for the Auckland Blues Rugby Franchise. Today's lighting combination is new for me (and not listed on the Skycity website either)...

I am quite into food photography these days; but this is my first bought Papaya ever and I felt like mentioning it (I also want to mention how surprised I am to find poems about papayas!!)...
